I had the pleasure of being a vendor at a craft fair held in Wilmington, NC, called Made in NC a couple of years ago. I always make at least one new design for each show. These NC belt buckles, as well as, NC key chains were my new designs I featured then. However, I have upgraded the original design since then so that it now is curved and wears even more beautifully. This buckle could easily be an everyday piece for both men and women.
Before I hand sawed out the North Carolina shape, I hammer textured the entire service. Each “dimple” you see is one strike from my hammer. I used a very thick gauge of nickel silver so that it has a nice weight and it is extremely durable! The findings soldered on the back are also nickel silver. I have finished it with a heat patina which helps bring out its detailed textures and also features fire scale where I soldered the findings. My favorite thing about this buckle is that it is the width of most belts (1 1/2″) so that it lines up wonderfully when worn.
This buckle is also available in copper.
